1. What is DSS?
Answer: Duty Suspension scheme belongs to the category of customs arrangement referred internationally as “Inward Processing Relief”. It allows goods (raw material) into a customs territory free from payment of import duties and taxes on condition that the imported goods are intended for manufacturing, processing and then to be exported. This is government initiative and will replace tax free factories when their licenses expire. In order to know whether a manufacturer qualifies or not information cannot be obtained from the Fiji Export Council.

2. How can DSS work for Exporters?
ANSWER: Exporters who want DSS to work for them should be importing raw material, manufacture and export. By exporting an importer will use credits and by exporting will gain credits that will provide additional power to import.

3. What benefits do I receive from DSS?
ANSWER: An exporter who operates under DSS does not pay import duty and value added tax on the importation of raw material. This assists in cash flow as the money is not tied up in duty and value added tax.

4. Why should become a member of EC?
ANSWER: To benefit from DSS first. Also with the added role of organization members will benefit from training, market access, web portal. FEC can be a conduit to importers and exporters for trade facilitation, finance and other regulatory requirements.

6. Can E.C assist me in locate a buyer of my products?
ANSWER: Yes with the new website FEC can source markets for manufactures and it can also look for source to buy importation material. FEC will have links to export councils in other countries and by this way the local exporters can get information from one source and that is FEC.

Do you have Exports documents readily available for Exporters?
ANSWER: Yes. If some documents are not readily available FEC will source them for you. FEC can bring relief for members who now engaging a lot time sourcing things. FEC can act as a bureau for its members.
